With your autumn village newsletter, you have received a sheet of bright YELLOW paper. On it is a questionnaire asking for your opinions on how you see our village evolving over the next 5, 10, 15 years.  Your opinions will help to create a vision for the village, via a NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN. Whether you want a drive-through Starbucks at the garage, or to protect a particular view or wildlife habitat, WE WANT TO KNOW!! You know this village and what is important to it! One village managed to protect a sloping field, proving it was an important site for families to go sledging in the winter. We need to know which areas are important for you and your family.
A neighbourhood plan gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and INFLUENCE the development and growth of their local area. It CANNOT influence highways/public transport/government level planning i.e. where a green belt should be designated.
Neighbourhood planning was introduced in the Localism Act in 2011. It is an important and powerful tool that gives communities statutory powers to shape how their communities develop. Whilst the local plan covers the whole district, a neighbourhood plan is focused on the needs of the specific neighbourhood and allows the local community to specify what they expect from development. When local communities are empowered to lead and influence decision-making, it makes a real difference to their area. People with passion and enthusiasm can use neighbourhood planning as a means of changing their neighbourhoods for the better.
Neighbourhood planning provides the Comberbach community with a powerful set of tools to ensure that they get the right types of development or protection for their community where the ambition of the neighbourhood is aligned with the strategic needs and priorities of the wider local area. It gives you the power to produce a plan with a real legal weight that directs development and protection in your local area.
By getting involved and having your say then you stand to benefit through helping to shape and inform a document that: Sets out planning policies for the neighbourhood area – planning policies are used to decide whether to approve planning applications; Is written by the local community, the people who know and love the area, rather than the Local Planning Authority; Is a powerful tool to ensure the community gets the right types of development, in the right place.
So this is your opportunity to decide where growth does and does not occur by having your say. Questionnaires should be returned to the post office, or completed using the online form found at or by visiting by Thursday 23rd November 2018.
So make sure that YOU contribute to the future vision of our village life, and help us to maintain, protect and grow the identity of Comberbach.
