Comberbach Recreation Committee was established in 2001 to identify the needs of the local residents, prepare a plan and raise the funds necessary to replace the play equipment and develop the Recreation Area in our village. The original swings and slide had been removed in 1999 to make way for the building of a new Village Hall.
A newsletter was delivered to every household in the village inviting people to join the Committee. Groundwork, a leading environmental regeneration organisation were contacted to take a project management role.
The views of all residents were then sought on the type of areas/equipment required and local schoolchildren were invited to submit drawings/ideas for the play areas.
The results of the survey were presented at an open evening and passed to a local Landscape Architect working with Groundwork from which an outline plan was developed incorporating most of the facilities requested.
Planning Approval was received, funding of £89,000 secured. Work started on 8 December 2003. The first phase of the project was completed in March 2004, providing play areas for toddlers and juniors, seating and garden area. The opening ceremony was perfomed by The Mayor of Vale Royal, Councillor Val Godfrey on Wednesday 14 April 2004
We raised a further £70,000 for phase 2 and the Official Opening of this phase took place on Wednesday 24 August when The Mayor of Vale Royal, Councillor Norman Wright performed the Opening Ceremony. This phase included an Aerial Cableway and Multi Court along with completion of the footpaths, the final landscaping and picnic tables.
